Hearing aids can be a truly magnificent asset for people with hearing loss. However, if your hearing aids are not working properly, then this can prevent you from getting the maximum benefit from them. For this reason, it is important to make sure that you keep your hearing aids in top working order.

However, it can be difficult to keep a hearing aid in tip-top shape indefinitely. They can break down or need repairs occasionally. In such circumstances, it is best to identify that hearing aid repairs are needed early, and to get them fixed before more damage is caused. Here are some of the top signs that your hearing aids need to be repaired.

1. Your hearing aids are not producing any sound

This is of course, a major problem. After all, the entire purpose of hearing aids is to produce sounds that are more easily heard by people with hearing impairments. There are a number of reasons why your hearing aids may not be producing sound. For example, there may be a wax buildup blocking the microphone.

Also, your hearing aids may not be turned on. Before you go to get them repaired, you should check to see if it is a simple problem like this. However, if it is not, then it is a good idea to go and get them repaired.

2. Your hearing aids sound distorted

If you are experiencing this problem then there is a chance that it could also be a simple issue such as needing a new battery, or having the wrong setting on. However, a distorted sound could be a symptom of a much larger problem. So, if you cannot fix it after trying simple remedies and checking the settings, then it may be time to bring your hearing aids in for a repair.

3. Your hearing aids are not loud enough

This could also be an issue caused by wax buildup on the microphone. So first check to make sure that that is not what is causing the reduced sound output. Also make sure that you have the volume at the right setting, and not turned down too low. If you have done these things and it is still not getting louder, then it could be time to get a repair.

If your hearing aids aren’t performing the way the used to, or you’re experiencing consistent issues with them, don’t hesitate to contact your hearing care provider and schedule an appointment to have them inspected.
