Ways to Prepare for a Hearing Test

Gather a list of medication

Something that you are always going to need to take with you to any kind of test is a list of medication you are currently taking. Your physical health and any medications that you are currently taking could be impacting your hearing ability, and this is something that your hearing instrument specialist needs to know. When they are completing the hearing test, your hearing instrument specialist will show you a detailed map of your hearing, where they will be able to see if any medical issue or medication could be impacting you. Knowing your physical condition and your medications could impact the advice that your hearing instrument specialist will give you, so it is imperative that you know everything relating to your health.

Consider your own needs

While they are an expert in their field, they are not going to be able to read your mind and tell you what you are thinking. As such, you are going to need to clearly relay the information about your hearing to your hearing instrument specialist. What we mean here is only you are going to be able to provide information such as what situations you can hear best in, which ones you struggle with. If you can hear loud noises but not quiet ones. By doing this, you are helping your hearing instrument specialist to diagnose any issues that you may have. It will also help them know if there is anything specific that they should be looking for when they are conducting your hearing tests.

If you can’t tell your hearing instrument specialist any information about your hearing, it is going to be more difficult to provide you with accurate advice and diagnosis. For the best treatment possible, make a list of anything that you think is going to be relevant and take this to your hearing test.

Write down any questions

Clean your ears

Earwax and debris build up in your ears could be hindering your hearing ability. As such, you should make sure that you have thoroughly cleaned your ears before you attend your hearing test. You don’t want your results to be skewed because you have a build-up of wax. You should make sure that you are cleaning your ears properly, without inserting anything fully into them. If you are not one hundred percent sure that the way you clean your ears is the correct way, you should look up a guide online that will tell you. Or, you could ask your hearing instrument specialist when you see them so that you know for the future.

Keeping your ears clean is going to be important for maintaining good levels of hearing health for as long as possible. It is vital that you never insert anything, even a cotton swab directly into your ear as this could cause damage that will impact your hearing in the future.
